Cycling Challenge

This is an activity that will keep you fit and allow you to do some fundraising for a good cause at the same time!  The money you raise as a group will be split between ‘Water Aid’ and ‘SNAPPY’. Essentials for this challenge are physical stamina, ability, some ready cash and massive commitment! Your challenge is to ‘Complete two stages of the Tour de France with a buddy’ over the Wednesday afternoon of a school term.  The first stage will be Épernay to Metz covering a total of 210 km flat course.  You will need to cover a distance of 35km over the first six weeks until half term.  You can work with your buddy and cover 17.5 kilometres each.

In the second half of the term as your fitness increases you will move on to Stage 17 Bagnères-de-Luchon to Peyragudes covering a total of 144 km of a mountainous course. You will need to use the bike’s gears to increase your resistance to recreate the mountain ranges in this section.  You will be given a map of the stage route to enable you to recreate this tough mountain course.  Again you and your buddy will need to cover 24 km over the six weeks.  Working with your buddy you will cover 12 km each but this stage will be a high intensity workout.

Now for the fundraising bit…….  You will be required to gain a minimum of £10 in sponsorship IN ADVANCE of the challenge. Money must be raised and collected ‘up front’ and handed to the designated member of school staff at the first session, before you take up the challenge.

There will also be a weekly £1.50 reduced entry fee for cycling payable upon entrance - you will also need to show a ‘Huntington Pass’ (issued in advance). A chance to get physically fit and help others at the same time – the perfect activity – are you up for it?
