COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a practical course that is ideal for students who enjoy working in a hands-on environment using industry-standard software. This is a course which explores the use of ICT in the 21st Century. The course aims to give students the ability to carry out independent research. The students will analyse the use of software applications and develop their software skills independently.
COURSE CONTENT
AS UNITS:
Unit 1: ICT and Society
This unit will help you to understand how developments in technology have influenced individuals and society. You will communicate and present information which is well suited to its purpose and its audience while adopting standard ways of working. The unit is assessed through assignment under controlled conditions.
Unit 2: ICT and Organisations
This unit will help you to understand the information needs of organisations and how organisations, both large and small, public and commercial, are structured
For this unit you will produce a portfolio of which will be internally assessed.
Unit 3: Data Handling
This unit will help you to use relational database management software to develop and present information, and communicate information in a way that is suited to the audience. You will understand the purpose and uses of databases in organization and evaluate the suitability of information for a client. For this unit you will produce a portfolio of work to meet the assessment requirements for the unit. This unit is internally assessed.
A2 UNITS:
Unit 8: Project Management
The unit will help you develop project management skills. For this unit you will produce a portfolio of work which will be internally assessed.
Unit 10: Advanced Spreadsheet Design
This unit helps you to learn and apply good design principles in order to create spreadsheet systems to meet client needs. The unit is assessed through an examination board-set assignment under controlled conditions.
Unit 14: Interactive Multimedia
This unit helps you to be critical of commercially produced interactive multimedia products and to appreciate what is involved in the design and creation of multimedia applications, including the hardware and software. For this unit you will produce a portfolio of work which will be internally assessed.
CAREER POSSIBILITIES
This is an excellent course for students who wish to improve knowledge of ICT and their practical skills. A qualification in this subject is equally useful for students who wish to study an ICT related course in Higher Education or to enter employment in an ICT-related area.
GCSE GRADE PROFILE
Students who study this subject normally achieve A* to C grades in 4 or more subjects at GCSE.
