PDP Personal Development Programme

Each Wednesday afternoon we offer a range of activities designed to be relaxation from academic study. These usually include: performance, debating, ecological work, cooking "Wicked Food" , football, community service, keeping fit and a whole range more.

 

Annually:                                                              

The Sixth Form Pantomime.

Show in a Week: "Wizard of Oz" 2006, "Guys and Dolls" 2005, "Anything Goes" 2004, "Grease" 2003, "Forbidden Planet" 2002.

Charity Week: dressing up and organising the raising of about £3,500 a year.

Debating competition organised by the Central Science Laboratories: we have won this every year. In 2004 the final was between Huntington A and Huntington B teams.

Paired Reading: 72 students (two mornings each per week)
Reading Challenge:

In Class Support in Learning Support Groups: 36 students (two hours each per week)

Electronic Library (reading intervention computer scheme): 3 students

Other extra curricular we offer are Lexia, a spelling intervention computer scheme, cued spelling and handwriting Club

Reading Challenge is a scheme to boost confidence and competence in reading for an identified group of Year 8 students.  Year 12 students are trained as mentors and meet their partner in Year 8 for weekly targetted coaching sessions.  This takes place in the library during a morning registration period.  The scheme is co-ordinated by Mrs Gail Naish, Head of English.

 

Competition Record:

-         David Proctor was the winner of Young Scientist of the Year 2003.  It was organised by the University of Hull, open to all 16 - 17 year-olds in Yorkshire and the Humber.

-         Brendan Flanagan, Jacob McGuinn, Luke Dale and Kim Trinder were winners of Hostage to Fortune Quiz 2004 organised by University of Hull, open to pupils in Yorkshire and the Humber.
