Environmental Council
5 November 2012
As you can see by the new all in one recycling bins around the school, the environmental council has been very busy. This year as well as the unveiling of our new logo (from last year’s competition) we have a non-uniform day in December, where for a pound you can come to school in non-uniform (provided something you wear is the colour green). Also we have national switch-off fortnight from the 19th November to the 2nd December where we are planning to reduce the schools electricity usage (using the possibility of super-cool turn off stickers).
The environmental council is now meeting on a weekly basis, this means not only will things get done more and faster but this blog will have a lot more things to talk about and therefore will be more active. Now with this increase in productivity we now need some new members, so if you would like to join see Miss Mower in the aspirations department.
The members this year have made a herb garden for the school kitchen to use. This will cut down on food miles from the transportation of these exotic herbs. As well as this, the council was able to see the passive solar heating system in P-block, a very environmentally friendly yet helpful piece of equipment.
So if you have any ideas to put forward, please do not hesitate to tell any of the members in the council, each house now has at least one representative and we hope that there will be more (good comments available).
The next meeting is on the 9th of November so blog you then!
