This involves students from all years working on a range of projects both within school and the local community, to give something back, below are details of some of the volunteering initiatives at Huntington. Volunteering update from last year…
Volunteering’s Most Wanted have now moved on to pastures new and are making their mark on both Huntington Sixth Form and York College, we hope they have taken the opportunity to keep up the good volunteering work in their new adventures. There was lots of volunteering projects and activities last year such as the construction trip, cake sales, pancake flipping, school grounds, buddies and comedy nights that were very successful and some of those will be rolling into this year too.
The biggest volunteering news from last year is that each House has been paired with a charity to work with throughout the year, raise money for and contribute to, from designing Christmas cards to cake sales. Bronte is working with READ international, Cook the RNLI, Johnson the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Wilberforce are working with the Wilberforce Trust.
A new Award was launched last year for young volunteers in York to be recognised for their volunteering contribution and 26 of our students won an award with a further 2 winning a special award which was presented to them by the Lord Mayor of York. We hope to have just as many winners in the next year.
What to look forward to this year…
Coming up this year are some old favourites like the Shoebox appeal, year 7 disco and comedy night plus some new projects to get stuck into like Christmas Food Parcel Appeal, house decorations and scarecrows!
