In a celebration of culture across the world and of various festivities in different nations around the globe, the Catering staff will be presenting a range of themed lunches throughout the year, which relate to these events of national pride!

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year
A historical, fifteen day long event celebrated all over the world, foods traditionally eaten for the Chinese New Year include Chicken, Fish, Noodles, Mandarin Oranges, and 'Chinese New Year Pudding' or Nian Gao, a rice and suger based dessert.

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day)
The day before Ash Wednesday, when many people across the world including in Australia, USA, Ireland, UK, and Canada to name but a few, eat pancakes to use up the remainder of their sugar, fat, and eggs, which were traditionally restricted during the festival of Lent.

Republic Day

Republic Day (Italy)
The Festa della Republicca in Italy commemorates the 1946 Institutional Referendum which was held in the country following the end of World War II and the downfall of Facism, when the Italian people voted on what type of government to give their country.

Celebrated across the whole of the United States of America, Independence Day marks the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 when the US broke away from the Kingdom of Great Britain, along with celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the USA.

Batille Day

Bastille Day (France)
La Fete Nationale, or The National Celebration, remembers the day in 1790 of the storming of the Bastille Fortress Prison, which was an event seen by most to have lead to the uprising of Modern France; and rejoicing in the Constitutional Monarchy the country is governed under.

Mexican Independence

Independence Day (Mexico)
Commemorating the War of Independence in Mexico in 1810, the Mexican National Day is a huge event, which marks the first day of the revolt against the Spanish collonial government in charge at the time. It took over a decade of war to finally release Mexico to their own government, and so this is well celebrated!

Ghandi Day

Gandhi Jayanti (India)
One of few national holidays in India, this day celebrates the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, in 1869. He is famed for having made great strides towards achieving ethnic and religious peace, women's rights, economic self-sustainability, and of course, independence.
