Sunday 9th April: Hotel Geirland – Everyone had breakfast at 08.00, and departed at 09.00.

We headed to Reynishverfi – a black volcanic beach with basalt cliffs.

After 10.00 we headed up to the Solheimajokull glacier – glacier walk using basic ice equipment and crampons excellently show by students in the photo!

We also visited the stunning Skogafoss Waterfall i the afternoon which was really beautiful – the photo we’ve received is fantastic!  Perfect weather and sunlight to capture this.

After the fall everyone visited the Eyjafjallajokull visitor centre to learn about the infamous 2010 eruption which caused the Ash Cloud and stopped many flights!

At about 16:00 the group went to Hellisheioi Geothermal Power Station to view a presentation and tour.

What a superb day!

April 8th:  A jam packed day – the group have visited lava flows and found evidence of past volcanic eruptions and how this had impacted on the current ground and landscape structure.  They went to an incredible glacial lagoon where you can see icebergs in the distance!  Fantastic group photo of everyone by the ice.  We also headed to Vatnajokull National Park to see the valley and rock formation.

A day full of stunning landscape and plenty of walking.  We will be sleeping well tonight!

Update from Yesterday April 7th:  Everyone went to Thingvellir national park, they were pretending to be Viking chieftains.  There is also a photo at Geysir to see the hot springs and geysers, after everyone visited Gullfoss a double waterfall, in the afternoon the group went swimming in the Secret Lagoon, in the evening after dinner they had a games night.

Update 7th April 8:00am (our time): Yesterday everyone visited Gunnuhver for the mud pools, natural steam vents, and coastal scenery.  They had dinner at an Italian restaurant; Rossopomodoro in central Reykjavik, and then had a pretty wet walk around central Reykjavik and up to the famous church and tallest building all lit up at night.

They were all checked into rooms by 11pm (Icelandic time).
